Building Instructions

Prerequisites

The SIGN depends on some basic libraries and tools to be in place before compiling the specific dependencies. Here is a list:

• A working compiler. We have tried gcc3.4 (linux and Mac OSX) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 (VC++ .NET might work)
• The CMake build system
• Tcl/Tk
• CVS and SVN

Dependencies

The SIGN depends on a large number of libraries. This was necessary to implement such a comprehensive integrated tool. The dependencies should be installed in the order suggested below:

• VTK version 5.1 (CVS head), with Tcl wrapping turned on.
• KWWidgets.
• ITK (CVS head).
• NaviTrack. See separate instructions.

Building NaviTrack

Run ccmake from the root directory of NaviTrack. The following variables may be set in CMake:

• OMNI_DIR = Directory where OmniOrb is installed (optional)
• RSP_FILES = Directory where GE object files and libraries can be found for RSP interaction with scanner (optional)

Once you have generated the makefiles, just type make and hope for the best. If you have build problems, please contact support.

Building SIGN

Run ccmake from the root directory of The SIGN. The following variables have to be set in CMake:

• ITK_DIR = Directory where ITK is installed
• KWWIDGETS_INCLUDE_DIR = Directory where KWWidgets header files are installed (do 'make install', so that automated headers are installed with the other headers)
• KWWIDGETS_LIB = KWWidgets library with full pathname
• NAVITRACK_INCLUDE_DIR = Directory where NaviTrack header files are (NaviTrack/include)
• NAVITRACK_LIB = NaviTrack library with full pathname(NaviTrack/lib/libNaviTrack.so)
• TCL_INCLUDE_PATH = Directory where Tcl header files are
• TCL_LIBRARY_DEBUG = Tcl library with full pathname
• TCL_TCLSH = tclsh executable will full pathname
• TK_INCLUDE_PATH = Directory where Tk header files are
• TK_LIBRARY_DEBUG = Tk library with full pathname
• VTK_DIR = Directory where VTK is installed

Once you have generated the makefiles, just type make and hope for the best. Please also make sure that the path in line 10 of splot.dtd refers to 'share/navitrack.dtd' in your actual NaviTrack installation.
