Current methods to follow the evolution of individual multiple sclerosis lesions in size and shape over time rely on visual qualitative analysis and so not allow quantification. It was our goal to develop an image processing algorithm to identify automatically individual focal lesions on MRI brain images of multiple sclerosis patients, and to follow the changes in each lesion over time.
